Office Cleaning Checklist: 5 Areas to Include in Your Routine

A clear cleaning schedule starts with the way a workplace is used. This checklist covers five areas to discuss when arranging office cleaning. The final tasks and frequency should be agreed for each site, including access arrangements and any building requirements.

1. Entrances and reception

Entrances are used throughout the day and can collect dust, leaves and tracked-in dirt. Consider including door handles and other agreed touchpoints, reception surfaces, entrance mats, visible marks on suitable surfaces, floors and bins. Let your cleaner know about security desks, visitor procedures or areas that must remain clear.

2. Workstations and shared areas

Agree which shared surfaces are included, such as meeting tables, shared counters and commonly used touchpoints. Staff should generally clear personal items and paperwork from desks before cleaning. Tell the cleaning team about computers, specialist equipment, confidential material and any surfaces that need a particular product or should not be touched.

3. Kitchens and break rooms

A kitchen scope may cover accessible bench surfaces, sinks, table tops, exterior appliance surfaces and bins. Cleaning inside fridges, microwaves or cupboards should be confirmed separately, along with who removes food and personal belongings. Product choice can be discussed for the surfaces and finishes at your site.

4. Bathrooms and washrooms

Set out the fixtures and surfaces to be cleaned and how often the washroom should be checked. If you need consumables replenished, agree the products, dispenser compatibility, supply responsibility and restocking frequency in advance. Quality bathroom supplies can be arranged to suit the building’s requirements.

5. Floors, bins and meeting rooms

Floor care depends on the surface and site conditions. The agreed routine may include vacuuming, sweeping or mopping suitable areas, emptying nominated bins and resetting meeting rooms. Confirm recycling arrangements, bin locations and any rooms that need cleaning only after bookings or at particular times.

Build a schedule around your workplace

Before requesting a quote, note your workplace type, the areas to be cleaned, preferred service days, access arrangements and any site-specific instructions. Separate regular tasks from periodic work so everyone understands what is included. A documented scope helps the site contact and cleaning team work from the same plan.
